Discovery Crew students are involved in a number of activities that will instill life long learning at an early age. When we understand the importance of children’s earliest years in shaping their learning and development, we can see the importance of making the most of all learning opportunities for children.
Kids on Campus students are offered accelerated classes for those academically talented students that meet the eligibility criteria of the program. Students must meet at least ONE of the following criteria: +/= 95% on at least one part of a standardized test or +/= 95% on a standard ability test. Please address questions about your child’s test scores to your child’s school principal or gifted resource teacher. An eligibility form must be on file at the Kids and College office before registration takes place. Children in this program are eligible for Investigators classes.
Investigators are students that will learn through exploration and experimentation. These activities will help students discover their own talents and interests, help build self esteem and prove to themselves that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. Children in this program are not eligible for Kids on Campus classes.
These are non-credit/no grade two hour classes offered at McHenry County College on eight consecutive Fridays for home schooled students. Three eight week sessions are scheduled during the academic year, fall, winter and spring. A certificate with class hours is given to each student at the last day of classes.
High school students are very busy. Many are developing life long learning skills through academic, social and personal interest venues. The classes for G.O.L.D. students are designed to enhance those achievements and develop other interests as well.
We are always looking for ideas and instructors. We are anxious to receive input from the community about courses of interest. Please contact Marie Frostman at (815) 479-7559 or e-mail at mfrostma@mchenry.edu if you have ideas or are interest in sharing your talents and would like to teach a course. If your schools have had to delete activities because of staff or financial restraints, let us know. If you are an organization or individual looking to sponsor youth opportunities, we want to hear from you.
Gift ideas: Sponsor a child in a class or give a class gift certificate as a gift for the holidays or birthdays.
