Mom of Two MCC Alumni Returns to College
"If they can do it, so can I," stated Denise Steinlauf, who returned to school to earn a degree after her two sons graduated from MCC and now attend four-year universities.
She is completing her last semester and plans to graduate in May 2016 with her Associate in Applied Science degree in graphic arts. Steinlauf was recently selected to display three of her digital photographs for a student art exhibition at the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) offices in Springfield for one year. Her photographs include a grain factory, a bank and a close-up of a tulip.
She said she has received a great value for the money at MCC and is grateful for the encouragement from instructors.
"The graphic arts department staff is great and I have learned a lot. The instructors have gone above and beyond answering any questions I've had. Besides teaching me about design and technology, they frequently remind me what the values are of being a good designer and employee. I'm grateful for the opportunity to network with them. The instructors let the students know when there is a local job available. I plan to keep in touch with my teachers after graduation." In fact, her instructor referred her to an internship opportunity to do website design for a local non-profit organization this spring.
"Attending MCC works for me because of its location and value. I would recommend MCC to anyone. I believe I'm receiving a quality education without having to pay high tuition fees or paying room and board. I have also made new friends at MCC."
