Before Orientation Checklist for New Student Orientation
Continue to check your email for updates
New Student Orientation is the first step in your transition to MCC. This Checklist is a guide for several of the things you should do in preparation for your NSO and registration. This list is not all-inclusive, but it does organize a number of tasks that are required and would allow you to set-up courses without restrictions. Many of these items can be completed in advance and we recommend planning ahead.
- 📧 Update your email
MCC will send important information to students through email. Many students will lose access to their high school email. Therefore it is important to update your email to a personal email. You can update your email in the Registration Office (A260) or by calling (815) 455-8588.
- 💻 Login to myMCC
After you apply to MCC, you’ll receive an email with your myMCC username and password. You’ll be using this for the remainder of your time at MCC. You’ll need this username and password to complete NSO.
If you don't remember receiving your myMCC emails or need help accessing your username and password, visit www.mchenry.edu/myMCC for login assistance.
- 📜 Submit transcripts
It is important students send in transcripts from high school/college directly to the Admissions Office here at MCC. Transcripts are used for a variety of reasons including course placement.
Please note transcripts are typically sent twice: Once when you apply to MCC and then a second time when your final high school or college grades have been submitted.
- 📫 Send MCC your ACT/SAT scores
Placement into college-level English and math is determined by ACT or SAT score, AP credit, prior college credit or placement tests. See placement testing details at the Testing Center.
These high schools will also add your ACT or SAT scores to your transcript upon request:
- Alden-Hebron
- Harvard
- Johnsburg
- Marengo
- McHenry East and West
- Woodstock and Woodstock North
If your high school isn't listed above, bring or send a printed copy of your ACT or SAT scores to MCC Admissions .
Request your scores as follows:
- Access ACT scores
- Access SAT and AP scores.
- Official AP scores are required to receive credit at MCC.
You will not be able to register for English or math classes without this information on file.
- 📑 Determine if you need to take English or math placement tests as indicated by your ACT/SAT scores
- 📚 Prepare for English and math placement tests
See details about English Placement Testing | ACCUPLACER® including preparation and study resources.
See details about Math Placement Testing | ALEKS® PPL including preparation and study resources.
- 📅 Register for English and math placement tests
We recommend that you register online to schedule your English and math placement tests. Walk-ins are available on a limited basis. Students who register for their tests will be given preference over walk-in test takers.
- 💼 Take Career Coach
The MCC Career Services office provides students with the opportunity to discuss potential career paths. We recommend students take advantage of this service and create an appointment with someone in Career Services. Students are also encouraged to take Career Coach</a, a free online career assessment.
- 💵 Complete Your FAFSA
Use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form at www.studentaid.ed.gov to apply for federal and state grants and federal direct loans. While MCC has a priority deadline date of May 1, students may apply for financial aid throughout the academic year. For more detailed information, visit www.mchenry.edu/financialaid .
