Season Extension Up Close Workshop

When:
October 06, 2024
Time:
1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Category:
Agriculture Events
Location:
MCC Student Farm
Details:

The Midwest fruit and vegetable farming and gardening season usually starts in April and ends in October (not counting early seed starting in the greenhouse). What if we could add a month to each end of the growing season? Or maybe, with the right plant varieties and double covering, grow and harvest throughout the year…without added heat? Enter the high and low tunnels. We’ll start with a presentation on various high and low tunnels and a discussion of the topic. Then, we’ll head to the MCC Student Farm to see two distinct high tunnels in operation. We’ll compare one with electricity running to it, and one without, purchased from two different companies. We’ll share the pros and cons of each. If you are considering building one, you’ll benefit from this deep dive into their construction and use.
