McHenry County College, University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners to Host Annual Garden Walk on July 10

Join the University of Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners for Garden Walk 2021 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 10, starting at the outdoor Demonstration Garden at McHenry County College, 8900 US Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake.

Attendees of the annual event presented by the University of Illinois Extension and McHenry County College (MCC) will experience some of the most unique, creative gardens across Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake. From gardens overlooking a sparkling lake to those with magnificent trees, all nine gardens on the tour are a must-see.

The Demonstration Garden at MCC, the Garden Walk's starting point, includes a vine garden, cool shadowy corners full of shade-loving plants, various theme gardens and extensive displays of perennials and annuals. Quiet, hidden benches and nooks throughout the space provide a place for reflection and contemplation. The Demo Garden is planted and tended by the Extension Master Gardeners.

Attendees are invited to tour all gardens at their own pace. Master Gardeners will be on-site at each garden to answer questions and offer educational materials.

Advance tickets ($12) can be purchased online at https://gardenwalk2021.brownpapertickets.com, or through MCC by calling (815) 455-8588. All tickets must be picked up the day of the walk. Tickets are also available the day of the walk for $17 at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at MCC—Parking Lot C.

No ticket sales will be available from Wednesday, June 30, through Friday, July 9, 2021. No tickets will be mailed and no refunds will be extended. The event will be held rain or shine. No pets are allowed.

As of Tuesday, June 1, 2021, MCC employees, students, and visitors who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask/face covering on the College’s campus. According to the CDC, “fully vaccinated” is defined as someone who is past the two (2) weeks following their second COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer/Moderna) or single vaccination (Johnson & Johnson). Fully-vaccinated individuals are still welcome to continue wearing a mask if preferred. Those who are not fully vaccinated should continue to wear a mask/face covering while on campus.

The University of Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners is a group of more than 120 volunteers sponsored by University of Illinois Extension. Extension Master Gardeners complete rigorous training in horticulture and botany and volunteer a minimum of 30 hours per year.

The mission of an Extension Master Gardener is to share unbiased, reliable, research-based information with home landscapers and gardeners, as well as to encourage people to enjoy gardening and vegetable growing.
