Applications Open for MCC's Spring 2025 Nursing Cohort

Interested in a career in nursing? McHenry County College (MCC) is accepting applications now through September 1 for its Spring 2025 Nursing Program.

The curriculum prepares students to become Registered Nurses and work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and private homes and offices.

The College recently expanded opportunities for students to join the program by offering admission in both the Spring and Fall.

“We’re thrilled to be offering an additional cohort for students in the spring,” said Dr. Betsy Schnowske, Director of Nursing at MCC. “Students who are in their last semester of prerequisite courses for the AAS in Nursing at MCC should apply now to start in January 2025.”

As part of their studies, students use the hands-on Nursing Simulation lab at MCC to practice on high-fidelity mannequins before working with patients in the field. They also complete many clinical experiences in local facilities working alongside licensed nurses, giving them plenty of experience applying their knowledge to real patients even before graduating. In the classroom, students work with nursing-specific tutors and benefit from small class sizes taught by experienced nurses.

“Our Nursing Program graduates always score above national and state averages on the NCLEX-RN, the RN licensure exam,” added Schnowske. “We also have an 100% job placement rate with many students going on to work at organizations such as Advocate-Aurora and Northwestern Medicine.”

Those wanting to earn a bachelor’s degree after completing MCC’s program can also now do so close to home thanks to a partnership between the University Center at MCC and Aurora University.

“Our program offers the same high-quality education at a fraction of the cost of a four-year university,” said Schnowske. “Students can complete their associate degree in nursing at MCC, then transfer to earn their bachelor’s degree in just three semesters.”
