MCC Student Takes Home Best of Show at ISCC Juried Art Festival

McHenry County College (MCC) student Lexi Cox recently took home the Best of Show award at the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) Juried Art Festival for her 54 x 54” oil on canvas painting After Work Scandal. Cox created the painting in art instructor Matt Irie’s Painting III class.

“We’re extremely proud of Lexi and the exceptional talent of our students,” said Trevor Power, Art Gallery Curator at MCC. “I couldn’t be happier with the MCC students who participated in this year’s competition and how well they represented the college.”

The annual Skyway Juried Art Competition showcases the incredible talent of student artists from the eight community colleges in the ISCC. This year, 254 artworks were entered by MCC students, 25 of which were selected for submission to the competition by MCC faculty. 10 of those pieces were ultimately juried into the show (out of 200 submissions from across the ISCC).

Other MCC students who had their work juried in the show included:
  • Nate Bingier, The Sun, Gelatin silver print
  • Allison Downs, The Yellow Wallpaper, Book design
  • Mason Jones, A Guide to Otherworldly Visitors, Poster design, inkjet print
  • Isak Mayer, Torn Beef Hash, Oil on canvas
  • Leah McQuire, Knickknacks, Graphite on paper
  • Noah Solis, Florence, Oil on canvas
  • Patti Stricker, CONGELATION 28.3, Acrylic on canvas
  • Patty Trainer, Augustine Tea, Ceramic
  • Abbie Wood, The Hermit, Collage

Cox’s award-winning piece and other outstanding student artwork will be on display through April 16 at the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery at the College of Lake County.
