The Nursing Program at McHenry County College (MCC) was recently named the #1 Nursing School in Illinois for 2026 by RegisteredNursing.org. Rankings are based on schools’ first-time NCLEX pass rates—the national exam required for Registered Nurse licensure—to help students make informed decisions about choosing a Nursing program.
MCC’s Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing offers a comprehensive pathway to becoming a Registered Nurse with “exceptional preparation,” reads the listing on RegisteredNursing.org.
“The program boasts consistently impressive NCLEX pass rates, achieving 91% in 2022 and perfect 100% pass rates in 2023 and 2024, demonstrating outstanding student success,” it continues. “Students benefit from 12 hours of weekly clinical experience across diverse healthcare settings, providing practical skills development. Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the program requires preadmission testing and offers financial aid to support accessibility. With 66-70 credit hours, the curriculum emphasizes hands-on clinical instruction and supports seamless RN to BSN transitions. Graduates are well-equipped to excel in various nursing roles with a strong foundational educational experience.”
“This achievement is a direct reflection of the dedication and diligent work ethic of our students, and the commitment of our faculty to maintaining the highest standards of instruction and ensuring student success,” said Kristin Lynam, DNP, RN, Nursing Department Chair at MCC. “This recognition highlights the quality, collaboration, and community impact of our entire institution.”
The College recently updated and expanded its on-campus Nursing labs, giving students access to the latest techniques and equipment. Students receive 12 hours of hands-on clinical instruction per week in a hospital or healthcare setting beginning with the first semester and continuing throughout the program.
Graduates of the program can also transfer to the University Center at MCC to complete their RN to BSN locally through Aurora University.
