Calvin McFalls

When MCC student Calvin McFalls started looking for a job, he wasn’t sure where to begin. He needed help putting together a resume, and he wanted to find a position that matched his skill set. McFalls shared these goals with a few other departments on campus, who referred him to MCC’s Career Services.
Shortly thereafter, Calvin stopped by the Career Services office to work with Cory Vlahos, Coordinator of Career Services, to create a polished resume and discuss job opportunities. Vlahos then facilitated a connection with a potential employer, Xact Wire EDM in Cary, to determine if it would be a good fit. McFalls spoke with the company’s division manager, and shortly after, he was hired.
"Without the help of Career Services, I would still probably be in phase one, trying to get a resume finished,” he said. “The thing that I found the best is the connections that they have with all kinds of people and companies."
MCC Career Services offers personalized support, valuable industry connections, and real people who genuinely care about those who use their services.
"Calvin is a great example of the hands-on, thoughtful support we provide to students, alumni, and community members," said Cory Vlahos, Coordinator of Career Services at MCC. "Unlike generic online tools, we work closely with students to tailor their approach, make meaningful introductions, and confidently navigate their career journey. We frequently hear how impactful it is to speak with someone who truly understands their goals and can offer guidance beyond the algorithm."
McFalls started at Xact Wire EDM in March and works on the floor using machines to make parts.
"It’s a very precise process that requires a lot of attention, but it’s enjoyable to me," he said. "I’d recommend Xact for people who enjoy being as accurate as possible, caring more about the quality of each part than how many parts they can make. The people are wonderful, and it’s easy to fit in."
McFalls highly recommends MCC’s Career Services for those having trouble finding jobs in their field.
"They were able to find a good fit really fast," he added.
