ADN Program Pre-admission Testing Guidelines

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®) is used as a pre-admission test for the MCC Nursing Program. No other nursing preadmission exam scores will be considered. Contact the Testing Center at (815) 479-7624 with questions.

TEAS at MCC is open to MCC students only.

  • What are the testing dates and times?
  • How do I sign-up and pay for the TEAS at MCC?
    1. Create an account at the ATI website to get your TEAS ID number
      • Go to www.atitesting.com
      • Select "I am preparing for or taking the TEAS"
      • Select Create Account in the upper right corner of the page

      Do not attempt to register for a test. Simply create an account, select McHenry County College as your institution and print out the page with your ID number.

    2. Schedule and pay for your exam » The cost for the TEAS is $80. The fee is not refundable.

    TEAS details you need to know

    • TEAS is only open to MCC students
    • It is your (the student’s) responsibility to register for the exam
    • Late registrations will not be allowed
    • There will be no refunds once you have registered
    • You cannot withdrawal or cancel your registration for the TEAS
    • If you arrive late, you will not be permitted to take the TEAS and will forfeit your registration fee
    • There is an optional ten minute break during this time period. If you're late returning from break, you will not be allowed to continue the test. You may leave once you complete the fourth exam.
  • What do I need to bring on the day of the test?
    1. A current, signed government-issued photo ID to testing
    2. Your MCC ID number
    3. Your ATI username and password
    4. Two sharpened #2 pencils

    The only acceptable IDs are:

    • driver’s license
    • government or state ID card
    • military ID
    • passport
    • alien residency (green) card

    If you don’t have driver's license or state ID, you can obtain one at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

    Important TEAS testing information

    • Failure to bring a your ATI username and password will invalidate your test appointment
    • Anyone without proper identification will not be allowed to test
    • Late arrivals will not be allowed to take the exam and will not receive a refund of the test fee
    • No food or drinks are permitted during the exam
    • Personal calculators are not allowed
    • Please leave personal belongings and cellphones in your vehicles, if possible
  • What is the TEAS like?
    • The TEAS is comprised of four individual exams in the following areas: reading, mathematics, science, and English. See TEAS exam details
    • About 4.5 hours are allotted for the actual testing.
    • The TEAS is in an online format using the ATI website using a proctored, timed assessment format. You cannot go back or review previously answered questions. Skipped questions will be counted as incorrect.
    • To do well on the TEAS, complete most of the prerequisite courses, especially the science courses, prior to testing.
