Veteran Education Benefits
The Department of Veterans Affairs and Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) administer a variety of veteran benefit programs for education. Many veterans and active-duty personnel may qualify for more than one education benefits program:
If you would like to use your VA benefits, you must let the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Benefits know that you have registered for classes by submitting your Request for Benefits and Certification Form.
- GI Education Programs
- Survivor Education Benefits
- Military Tuition Assistance
To receive Military Tuition Assistance (TA), you must complete the appropriate application with your Branch of Service. You can find the link to your specific branch's TA website below.
Be sure to contact your Education Service Officer (ESO) or Counselor for assistance and get approval from your Military Service before you enroll in any courses.
Once you have approval, you can contact our Military Education Benefit Specialist or the Financial Aid Office for further assistance.
- Payment Rates
If you are transferring to MCC from another college and have your Letter of Eligibility, you will need to complete the Change of Program or Place of Training Form.
All Chapters must fill out an application available online. To ensure correct processing please provide a copy of your DD-214 and Certificate of Eligibility to the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Benefits. MCC does not determine benefit eligibility or payment details; we simply certify your enrollment to the VA. All processing questions should be directed to the VA for resolution.
- State of Illinois Veteran Programs
Once your application has been processed by the State, you will receive an eligibility letter. Forward this to the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Benefits (A260).
Note: Changes in federal, state, and/or institutional policies could affect the above-stated financial information.
- MCC Veteran Financial Resources
Apply for veteran scholarships available through the Friends of MCC Foundation to help pay for books,
supplies, or fees not covered by VA benefits - National Testing Program
Advancing your education often requires you to take costly national tests. Students can be reimbursed for all required (mandatory) fees charged for national admission tests and national tests for college credit.
Financial Aid Questions Veterans Ask
Find answers to frequently asked questions about military and veteran education benefits, the GI Bill®, and financial aid at MCC.
- When should I register in order to keep my checks continuous?
Veterans should register at the first opportunity each semester. Let the Veterans Specialist know as soon as you register in order to be certified quickly.
- If I have never received benefits, how long after I register for school will I receive my first check?
Depending on your certification date it can take from eight to ten weeks for the Department of Veterans Affairs to process your certification.
- What if I need to drop a class? What happens to my benefits?
Your training time will be reduced, and, if you have received payment from the Department of Veterans Affairs for that month, you will have to repay the difference. In most cases, the overage is withheld from your next payment.
