Elementary Education

As an aspiring teacher, you’ll need a bachelor’s degree to teach in the public school system. You can get an excellent start toward that degree right here at MCC! We offer eight Education courses that you can take as part of your Associate in Science or Associate in Arts degree. When you transfer into a bachelor’s degree program, you can usually start as a junior—plus you’ll have your foundational courses already complete! Required observation hours are built into MCC’s Education coursework, so this program also increases your chance of acceptance into your chosen university.

As part of your studies, you’ll explore important principles of child psychology, language development, and foundations of reading as well as learn about diversity in the classroom and working with children who have exceptionalities. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend many hours of observation in local elementary, middle, and secondary schools.

The General Education Core Curriculum at MCC satisfies IAI GECC requirements and is designed for transfer to a four-year college or university.
