In the study of the Earth—known as geology—scientists analyze Earth processes, materials, and Earth’s history to gain a deeper understanding of the world and the resources we use. Studying geology at MCC provides the foundation needed to work in natural resource or environmental consulting companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and colleges—or pursue further studies in paleontology, mineralogy, hydrology, or volcanology.
In MCC’s Geology program, you’ll explore:
- The properties of rocks and minerals
- How the Earth is shaped through plate tectonics
- Natural disasters like volcanic eruptions and earthquakes
- Environmental issues and groundwater
- The National Parks – through our “Geology of the National Parks” course
Hands-on labs include analysis and interpretation of geologic data and maps, rock and mineral identification, and field experiences.
