Sexual Misconduct Assistance and Reporting

The College is committed to providing a safe and respectful educational and employment environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, and misconduct on the basis of sex, which includes sexual orientation or gender-related identity.

Review the procedures for implementing the College's prohibition of sexual discrimination, harassment, and misconduct.

Sexual discrimination is discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, or gender-related identity. Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and sexual violence.

Report Sexual or Gender-Based Misconduct

At McHenry County College, the Title IX Coordinator oversees the College's response to all complaints alleging sexual discrimination, sexual harassment, and/or sexual misconduct that involve a College student as the victim and/or complainant or as the respondent.

To discuss an incident or concern, go to the Student Affairs Office, A252, or contact the MCC Title IX Coordinator at (815) 479-7572. Copies of the policy and procedures are also available in the Student Resource Center, A247.

Most importantly, if you feel you are a victim of sexual harassment, misconduct or violence:

  • Do not blame yourself for being harassed. People do not bring sexual harassment upon themselves or "deserve" to be harassed.
  • Do not ignore the harassment, hoping it will go away. This is a common victim reaction, but is not an effective way to deal with a sexual harassment incident.
  • Do not keep it to yourself. You are very likely not the only victim, and by speaking up, you may help others as well as yourself.
  • Do not delay. Harassment is likely to continue if you delay. MCC policy and procedures strongly urge that a formal complaint be filed with the Student Conduct Officer.
